Hi Daniel, I’m Larry. I’m an engineer with both a mechanical and electronics background. (>34 years of post university experience).
I’m an amateur luthier and a German hand tool enthusiast. I’m reworking the arrangement of my tools in my shed (which is larger than yours - mine is 25 feet x 10 feet inside). I bought some stationary but still small power tools during the pandemic in 2020-2021 when I could not get to the shared shop I had been using for table saw/band saw/router table/ etc. But now it is too tight in here to get anything done and I have a bunch of stuff everywhere. So I am slowly trying to get it all together and get back to building instruments and furniture and not working on my shop and buying tools(I might have a mild problem when it comes to this).
Hi Larry, welcome to The Woodworking Shed! And thank you for your support!
It's good to have fellow engineers on board!
I would love to see some of the instruments you have made. Being a luthier sounds like a fantastic and interesting side to woodworking.
It sounds like you have the makings of a fantastic workshop. I do feel like the workshop itself becomes an ongoing project that is never really finished. Just as soon as you find a home for everything and a layout that works. There'll be a new addition that throws everything up in the air!
Once again, welcome, and thank you! I look forward to hearing more from you.
Hello there! My name is Greg, and I’m 66, retired(twice), and live in rural eastern Kentucky in the Appalachian Mountains. I grew up around woodworking, my grandfather had a well equipped cabinet shop, and my father and uncles were all craftsmen of one sort or another. I’ve always done small-ish woodworking projects, and after retiring from a career in the Army, and again from construction management, decided to build a small shop and teach myself joinery and furniture making. I use a hybrid approach, with both a few power tools, and a constantly growing hand tool collection. My current obsession is stick chairs…🫣
Hi I’m Robert, I’m in my thirties and live in Humboldt Co. California. I’m a computer engineer by trade. I love making things with my own hands, usually at a glowing screen.
During covid a new hobby of astronomy led me out of the digital world. The wooden telescope I set out to make never materialized, but along the way I found a new passion for the craft.
Hey I'm Astrid, an avid traveler and adventure seeker, which is what I write about including my learnings. I have always loved the thought of inventing ever since i was a kid, and just last year I attempted to build my own furnitures from scrap wood 😁 I just enjoy it and would like to learn more from you 💯
This looks like a cool community. I've never done a lot of woodworking, but I do write about it some in my stories. So, I'm always looking to learn more. I love the wood shavings picture, too. I think you're starting something awesome here. Great post, Daniel.

Hey Greg, welcome to The Woodworking Shed!
It sounds to me like woodworking is in your genes! No surprise you've been drawn back to it in retirement.
I hope that you will share your projects with us :)
Great to have you on board!
Thanks Daniel! I’ll try to post some progress pictures as my current chair comes together.

You should definitely return to the wooden telescope idea. What projects have you been working on?
Simple interior doors currently, board and batten. It’s quite challenging to fit them as our home has no right angles within it apparently haha.
I think most doors are missing 90-degree angles! Sounds like a fun challenge to get stuck in with though :) Welcome to the Shed!

Great to have you on board! Looking forward to seeing this scrapwood furniture of yours too! 🪚

Thank you for the kind words! Stick around there's a lot more to come 🪚
